Zulum Warns Against Collaboration with Insurgents, Inspects Solar Irrigation Farms

Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum has urged farming and fishing communities in Baga to avoid any form of cooperation with Boko Haram insurgents.

Speaking on Wednesday at the palace of the District Head in Baga, the governor expressed his condolences over a recent tragedy in the Dumba community but stressed the importance of adhering to military guidelines to maintain security in the area.

“I encourage the people of Baga and nearby communities to carry out farming only in areas approved by the military. While we support agricultural activities, everyone must comply with the rules set by the military and the government to ensure safety,” Zulum said.

He strongly condemned those collaborating with insurgents, labeling their actions as unacceptable and a threat to the region’s peace.

During his visit, Governor Zulum inspected a 2,000-hectare solar-powered irrigation project in Mile 3, designed for cultivating wheat and cassava.

“This irrigation project is a game-changer for increasing agricultural production and ensuring food security. Similar systems have already been implemented in Damasak, Ngala, and other areas,” he said.

The governor emphasized that the project aligns with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s goal of improving food security nationwide.

By reducing production costs through solar irrigation, the initiative aims to make farming more sustainable and profitable.

Governor Zulum also highlighted plans to transition the land from wheat cultivation to cassava after the current harvest, stating that Borno State has a comparative advantage in these crops.

In Kukawa town, the governor received a warm welcome and pledged to accelerate reconstruction efforts in education, healthcare, and other infrastructure.

He also addressed troops from the 101 Special Forces Battalion, commending their bravery and assuring them of continued government support.

The governor was accompanied by Senator Mohammed Tahir Monguno, Engr. Bukar Talba, Hon. Karta Maina Ma’aji, and other officials.
