The Borno State Governor, Babagana Umara Zulum, has asked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to reconsider merging the Army University, Biu, with the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA), Kaduna.
The President approved implementing the Oronsaye report, which suggests merging various government agencies, including the Army University, Biu, with the NDA Kaduna.
Governor Zulum appreciates the initiative but emphasizes the importance of the Army University for Borno State and the Northeast, given the region’s education challenges due to ongoing crises.
He suggests maintaining the university’s autonomy or transforming it into a conventional university under the Federal Ministry of Education.
Governor Zulum highlights the significance of education in combating insurgency, as Boko Haram targets western education.
He urged the Federal Government to reconsider the merger decision in light of the region’s educational needs.
Additionally, Governor Zulum emphasized the role of the National Centre for Agricultural Mechanisation (NCAM) in the Federal Government’s efforts to revive agriculture and enhance food security.
He visited NCAM and witnessed their fabrication of agricultural machinery, crucial for promoting sustainable agriculture and food security.
Governor Zulum urged the Federal Government to reconsider its decision regarding NCAM’s supervision, suggesting situating it under the Federal Ministry of Science to better support agricultural revival initiatives.
