Zulum Flags Off Construction of 100-Bed General Hospital in Kwaya Kusar

Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum, has flagged off the construction of a new 100-bed General Hospital in Kwaya Kusar Local Government Area as part of efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery across the state.
The groundbreaking ceremony, held on Saturday, fulfilled a promise the governor made during the launch of the 2026 Wet Farming Season and the distribution of subsidised fertiliser and agricultural inputs earlier in the week.
Zulum said the new hospital would complement the existing General Hospital in Kwaya Kusar, which will also be remodelled and equipped with modern medical facilities to improve healthcare services for residents and neighbouring communities.
The governor directed that the project be completed within six months and approved the immediate recruitment of one nurse, five Community Health Extension Workers (CHEWs), and two Medical Records Officers to support healthcare services in the area.
Senior Technical Assistant to the Governor on Special Projects, Engr. Emmanuel Yerima Gadzama, said the hospital would feature modern medical facilities expected of a standard 100-bed healthcare institution.
As part of his ongoing working tour of Southern Borno, Governor Zulum also inspected several ongoing projects in Shani, Hawul, Kwaya Kusar and Biu local government areas, including the construction of a 48-classroom Higher Islamic College in Shani, a 36-classroom Mega School in Marama, a 48-classroom Integrated Mega School in Shaffa, a 100-bed General Hospital in Shaffa, and the General Hospital in Briyel.
The governor expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work, noting that the projects reflect his administration’s commitment to improving healthcare and education infrastructure across Borno State.
Zulum assured residents that all ongoing projects initiated by his administration would be completed before the end of his tenure, while measures would be put in place to ensure their long-term sustainability.
