Zulum attends graduation of 832 orphans trained in 14 trades

The Borno State Enterprise Institute recently celebrated the graduation of 832 artisans, many were orphaned due to the long-lasting Boko Haram insurgency. 

The graduation ceremony, led by Borno State Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, took place at the Muna Vocational Enterprise Institute.

These artisans were selected from all 27 local government areas of Borno State and received training in various trades, including aluminium fabrication, bricklaying, carpentry, information technology, barbing, electrical work, leatherworks, plumbing, mechanics, solar technology, tailoring, tie and dye, welding, and hairdressing.

Governor Zulum highlighted the importance of vocational institutes in addressing youth unemployment and providing sustainable livelihoods, especially for those affected by the insurgency.

He emphasized his administration’s commitment to youth empowerment and the establishment of vocational institutes across different areas of Borno State.

In addition to the graduation, Governor Zulum approved the distribution of starter kits worth N847,277,297 to each graduate, along with a one-year labor-intensive public work grant of N349,440,000 to help them achieve self-reliance.

He also granted N41,600,000, with each graduate receiving N50,000. Furthermore, the governor announced automatic employment for the 64 best-performing artisans who achieved over 90% in both their specialized trades and academic assessments.

Governor Zulum directed the Ministry of Education, Science, Technology, and Innovation to initiate the process of converting Muna Vocational Enterprise Institute into a Monotechnic capable of awarding National Diplomas.

This move aims to further enhance vocational education and skills development in the state.
