Borno State Governor, Prof. Babagana Umara Zulum, has approved automatic employment for 81 best graduating students of Kashim Ibrahim University (KIU), alongside immediate postgraduate sponsorships within and outside Nigeria.
The governor made the announcement on Saturday during the university’s combined convocation ceremonies for the 2022/2023, 2023/2024 and 2024/2025 academic sessions, where a total of 2,294 students graduated.
Declaring that “excellence must be rewarded,” Governor Zulum urged the graduates to step into society as worthy ambassadors of KIU and active agents of development.
He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to education, describing it as a critical tool for societal transformation and sustainable development.
“Education remains central to Borno’s recovery and development,” the governor said, noting that Kashim Ibrahim University has emerged as a symbol of resilience and progress despite years of disruption caused by insurgency in the state.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who attended the ceremony, congratulated the graduates on their achievements and encouraged them to uphold integrity and excellence in their personal and professional lives.
He also commended the Borno State Government and the university’s management for laying a solid foundation for higher education in the North-East.
The convocation ceremony also featured the installation of the Ooni of Ife, His Imperial Majesty Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi II, as Chancellor of Kashim Ibrahim University.
In addition, honorary Doctor of Letters degrees were conferred on the Ooni of Ife and renowned international businessman, Alhaji Muhammadu Indimi.
As part of his support for the institution, Vice President Shettima donated two electric vehicles to enhance mobility on the university campus.
Earlier, the Vice-Chancellor of KIU, Prof. Babagana Gutti, disclosed that the university’s ultra-modern teaching hospital, which is nearing completion, would be the largest and most equipped in Nigeria upon completion.
Governor Zulum’s announcements underscore his administration’s focus on rewarding merit, strengthening education, and equipping graduates to contribute meaningfully to the development of Borno State and the nation at large.
