Zamfara Poly student assaulted by police officer on highway

A student from Abdu Gusau Polytechnic in Zamfara has said that a police officer hit her on the highway. A video of her crying and bleeding has gone viral.

In the video, she’s with some police officers, and someone asks if there’s a pharmacy nearby to help her.

The student explained that she was traveling to Sokoto when police at a checkpoint stopped their vehicle.

She said one officer called her a bad name and threatened to hurt her when she couldn’t prove who she was. She claimed the officer hit her head with a stick after threatening her.

She said, “I was going to Sokoto to get my NIN before the semester ends so I can use it for my service.” When they got to the checkpoint, the police stopped them, and the officer asked where she’s from.

She told him she’s a student, but he kept asking. She had earphones in because she was watching a movie on her phone.

“He came to me and asked where I’m from. I told him, but he kept asking. I found out later that a lecturer from a state university was in the vehicle with me. The police asked me to get out and said he would hurt me.

“I didn’t have my school ID because they hadn’t given it to us yet. He asked for my NIN, but I said I was going to Sokoto to get it. He called me a bad name. The lecturer came out and defended me, saying my clothes were decent.

“The officers asked us to get back in the vehicle, but as I tried, he hit my head. I know he did it on purpose because he had already threatened me.”
