The government of Zamfara State has said that people cannot travel across the borders with Katsina and Sokoto between 7:00 pm and 6:00 am.Â
This means people cannot move from Zamfara into Katsina or Sokoto, or vice versa, during these times.
The Commissioner for Information and Culture, Manir Haidara, told reporters about this decision in Gusau on Tuesday. He said the State Security Council Meeting decided on this.
“As from today, the state government has ordered restriction of movement along the Yankara border of Zamfara with Katsina state and Bimasa Zamfara border with Sokoto state from 7:00 pm to 6:00 am daily”.
Haidara explained that the reason for this rule is to stop kidnappings along the Sokoto-Gusau-Funtua highway. This is a road where many people have been kidnapped by criminals.
He said the government wants to reduce these kidnappings. So, they are making this rule to stop people from moving at night. They hope this will make it harder for the criminals to operate.
“This is part of the state government’s measures to reduce and address kidnapping activities by bandits, especially along highways in the state.”
The commissioner said everyone must follow this rule. Even people driving cars and other vehicles must obey it.
He also said that the police and other security agencies will make sure people obey this rule. They will watch the borders closely to make sure nobody is breaking the law.
“Security agencies are directed to monitor the two borders and ensure full compliance.”
