The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Zamfara State has waved off claims that some of its members were sidelined in the ongoing e-membership registration exercise, describing the allegations as much ado about nothing.
The controversy erupted after leaders of the Jajiyya political movement within the party accused the APC leadership of locking out their members from the digital registration process.
However, speaking at a press briefing in Gusau on Thursday, the party’s Publicity Secretary, Malam Yusuf Idris, dismissed the accusation as a red herring meant to stir unnecessary dust.
Idris insisted that the allegations were groundless and calculated to divert attention from the smooth conduct of the exercise.
“As I am speaking now, the committee responsible for the conduct of the exercise in the state has not received any complaint from any member of the APC.
“The exercise is for every legal member of the party; we have no record of exclusion in the exercise across the state.
“We urge aggrieved members to tender their complaints to the committee at the party secretariat,” he said.
According to him, the registration exercise has been cruising steadily since it began, covering all 147 political wards across the 14 local government areas of the state.
Idris noted that the party has recorded remarkable progress, with no fewer than 30,000 members already revalidating their membership online.
“We are recording tremendous success, we have so far registered 30,000 members of the party who revalidated their membership online.
“We appreciate our leaders and major stakeholders of the party including the former Governors, Ahmad Sani-Yarima, Alhaji Mahmud Shinkafi, Sen. Abdul’aziz Yari and Hon. Bello Matawalle, for revalidating their membership through the e-membership registration.
“We successfully registered former deputy governors, serving and former senators and house of representatives members among major chieftains of the party through the e-registration exercise,” Idris explained.
He added that the party leadership remains grateful to former governors Abdul’aziz Yari and Bello Matawalle for their continued support, which he said has helped keep the exercise on an even keel across the state.
