Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf has embarked on a sweeping restructuring of Kano State’s sports administration with the inauguration of a new Kano State Sports Commission and the appointment of a fresh Management Board for Kano Pillars Football Club.
The move, announced on Thursday, is aimed at revitalising sports governance and accelerating youth development across the state.
In a statement issued by the governor’s spokesperson, Sunusi Bature-Dawakin-Tofa, the new appointments were described as part of the administration’s broader vision to reposition the state’s sporting sector for greater success.
“The appointments to the Sports Commission include Alhaji Tukur Babangida as Chairman, with representatives from ALGON, higher institutions, persons with disabilities, and other stakeholders.
“Similarly, Ahmad Musbahu was named Chairman of the Kano Pillars Management Board, alongside members drawn from the club’s fan base, sports ambassadors, and experienced administrators,” he said.
The statement further revealed that Governor Yusuf has tasked the newly appointed officials with bringing their experience and commitment to bear in advancing sports development, discovering and nurturing young talents, and restoring Kano Pillars to its enviable status in Nigerian football.
The governor also expressed optimism that the reconstituted leadership would inject professionalism, drive excellence, and deliver meaningful progress capable of transforming Kano State into a leading force in sports development.
