Youths Allegedly Beat Sokoto Friday Prayer Imam Over Political Poster

Some youths in Bodinga, Sokoto State, have allegedly assaulted the imam of a Juma’at mosque following a dispute over the posting of a political campaign poster on the mosque.
Reports obtained by The News Chronicle indicate that a politician had renovated the mosque, including repainting the building, providing carpets and carrying out other improvements.
The dispute reportedly began when the mosque was scheduled to reopen after the renovation, with claims that the imam directed that a poster of a political candidate be displayed in the mosque.
Youths Allegedly Beat Sokoto Imam
The decision allegedly angered some youths in the community, leading to a confrontation during which the imam was reportedly beaten.
The mosque is said to belong to the Izala organisation, headquartered in Jos and led by Sheikh Sani Yahaya Jingir.
However, authorities and the leadership of the Izala organisation have yet to issue an official statement on the incident. The claims surrounding the poster and the circumstances that led to the assault therefore remain subject to further verification.
