A Nigerian man serving in the United States Army has triggered widespread reactions on social media after issuing a stern warning to Islamic cleric Sheikh Ahmad Gumi, amid reports of U.S. airstrikes on ISIS-linked camps in Sokoto State.
The soldier, identified on social media as @Horiyourme, reacted to Sheikh Gumi’s public criticism of U.S. involvement in Nigeria’s counter-terrorism operations. In a post shared online, the soldier uploaded a photo of the cleric and wrote: “First you deliver the baby, then you get the placenta. Sheikh Gumi, your days are numbered.”
The post quickly went viral, drawing thousands of comments and shares, with reactions sharply divided.
While some users applauded the soldier’s stance and described it as a response to years of insecurity and terrorism in northern Nigeria, others condemned the language as inflammatory and inappropriate.
Sheikh Gumi, a prominent cleric known for his controversial views on negotiations with armed groups, has repeatedly opposed foreign military intervention in Nigeria, arguing that it could worsen the security situation.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Sheikh Gumi nor Nigerian authorities have officially responded to the soldier’s remarks, while discussions around foreign military support and Nigeria’s counter-terrorism strategy continue to dominate public discourse.
