Famous American rapper Jeffery Williams, better known as Young Thug, is back home after spending two years in jail.
Young Thug was released from prison on Thursday after accepting a plea deal in a prolonged racketeering case that had kept him in custody since May 2022.
He was originally arrested in a large-scale street gang operation involving 28 individuals charged in a massive 56-count indictment.
Young Thug and others faced accusations under Georgia’s Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, along with allegations of involvement in criminal gang activities.
Prosecutors accused Young Thug of being one of the three founders of YSL, or “Young Slime Life,” a group allegedly linked to gang activity.
The rapper was charged with conspiracy to violate the RICO Act and participating in gang activities.
In his plea on Thursday, Young Thug pleaded “no contest” to the RICO and gang leader counts, while pleading guilty to several other charges, including two gun-related and three drug-related offenses.
Following his plea, the judge sentenced Young Thug to 15 years of probation with several conditions, including the possibility of reducing his sentence if he completes the terms successfully.
As part of his probation, Young Thug will give anti-gang presentations to children four times a year and complete 100 hours of community service annually.
Initially, prosecutors recommended a severe 45-year sentence, which included 25 years in prison and 20 years of probation.
However, Georgia Superior Court Judge Paige Whitaker ultimately decided to reduce the sentence, allowing Young Thug to return home and continue his life under probation.
