1 Following an attempt by Yoruba Nation agitators to take over the Oyo State Government Secretariat, governments and security agencies in South-West states have increased security around government structures to prevent lawlessness. They warned against any form of insecurity, particularly by those advocating for a Yoruba Nation. The agitators were arrested, signaling a firm response from authorities. Additionally, Afenifere and the Central Council of Ibadan Indigenes condemned the invasion, emphasizing that such actions are not representative of Yoruba values. They called for investigations and warned against further disruptions. This occurred after a viral video on April 12th of Dupe Onitiri-Abiola, widow of late MKO Abiola, who declared independence for a sovereign Yoruba nation called the “Democratic Republic of Yoruba (DRY)”. 2. The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has refuted claims of clearing individuals implicated in financial misappropriation at the Ministry of Humanitarian Affairs, Disaster Management, and Social Development. In a statement, the EFCC spokesperson, Dele Oyewale, noted that investigations are ongoing and have led to the recovery of N32.7 billion and $445,000 from the Ministry. Oyewale clarified that the investigations target fraudulent practices within the Ministry, not individuals, and involve COVID-19 funds, World Bank loans, and Abacha-recovered loot. They also affirmed that no one has been cleared, and those found guilty will face prosecution.
