Yoruba leaders under the aegis of the Yoruba Northern Elders Forum in Kano state have on Saturday 23 December 2023, warned President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to interfere with the Supreme Court judgement over the reserved ruling on the governorship legal battle in Kano State.

The group called on the Ooni of Ife, the Alaafin of Oyo, and the Oba of Lagos, as well as a former APC Chairman, Chief Bisi Akande, to interact with the President against any form sentiments and allow the ruling party to lose to the opposition at the Apex Court.

This was contained in a Communique signed by Elder Durojaiye Babalola and issued by the Yoruba elders headed by APC Stalwart and Convener of the Forum, Seyi Olorunsola, moments after their meeting in Kaduna.

The Yoruba elders noted that their appeal for the President was not to interfere with the decision of the Supreme Court but to allow the wheel of justice to prevail in the governorship court case in Kano state.

The group equally cautioned President Tinubu against yielding to sentiments and emotions that might lead to the will of the people of Kano State being undermined.

While commending the judiciary for their bold steps the elders hailed the judiciary for remaining steadfast to the letter and spirit of the law in the gubernatorial election judgment.

“The purpose of the meeting was to deliberate on the unfolding situation in Kano State, where the Electoral Tribunal and the Appeal Court have confirmed the victory of Dr. Nasir Gawuna, the APC candidate, in the March 18, 2023, gubernatorial elections”. The communique added in parts.

The group further maintained that their resolutions followed the impending Supreme Court judgment appealed by the NNPP Candidate, Engr. Kabir Abba Yusuf.
