Yobe University to Resume Academic Activities After Strike Ends Today

—

The Yobe State Government has officially ended the strike at Yobe State University, with academic activities set to resume on Monday, July 28, 2025.

This follows an indefinite industrial action declared by the university’s ASUU chapter on July 11, over unpaid salary arrears, demands for N70,000 minimum wage, and calls for university autonomy.

The Acting Registrar, Mallam Garba Ahmadu Girgir, confirmed the resumption in a letter addressed to all students on Sunday night.

The strike, which halted academic operations for weeks, had drawn public criticism amid reports of government spending on social media influencer events and infrastructure projects while neglecting the education sector.
