Yilwatda Not Imposed, He Earned It – Obun on APC Chairmanship

Former federal lawmaker, Cletus Obun, has thrown his weight behind the appointment of Nantawe Yilwatda as the new National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC), calling it a “fair and strategic” decision by the party’s caucus aimed at achieving geopolitical balance.

Speaking in an interview with Arise News, monitored by The News Chronicle on Friday, Obun argued that zoning the chairmanship to Plateau State reflects the APC’s firm grip on the North Central region.

“This move speaks volumes,” Obun said. “The six geopolitical zones are now balanced. The APC isn’t just playing politics; it’s positioning to dominate.”

He took a swipe at the opposition, labeling their coalition efforts as “haphazard,” and insisted that the APC’s biggest challenge is not external rivals but internal complacency. “The only threat to the APC is the APC itself,” he remarked.

On internal party dynamics, Obun brushed aside claims that Yilwatda’s emergence was forced on the party, insisting instead that his credibility and integrity make him a strong asset.

“Yilwatda’s integrity is going to be a major selling point,” he noted, while keeping mum on the party’s broader strategies. “Some things are better left off the air.”
