X Introduces Labels for Parody Accounts

X announced on January 9, 2025, that it will now provide clear labels for parody and satire accounts to avoid confusion with genuine profiles.

This decision comes after users, including news outlets, often misinterpreted posts from these accounts as real statements from the people or organizations they mimic.

The labels will be visible on both the accounts and their posts to help users easily recognize them as parody.

Currently, users must apply these labels manually through their settings, choosing the “Parody, commentary and fan account” option.

X stated that these labels would become mandatory for parody accounts in the near future.

While impersonation remains banned on the platform, parody and fan accounts are allowed as long as they comply with platform guidelines.
