X Implements New Guidelines for Adult Content

—

Social media platform X, previously known as Twitter, has officially updated its content policies to permit users to post consensually-produced adult and graphic content.
This decision marks a significant shift in the platform’s approach to content moderation.
Key aspects of the new guidelines include mandatory labeling of Not Safe For Work (NSFW) content to ensure it is prominently marked.
The updated rules extend to AI-generated videos and images, reflecting the platform’s adaptation to evolving digital content creation methods.
Under the leadership of Elon Musk, X has previously experimented with hosting adult content.
The platform now shows the importance of adult autonomy in engaging with sexual content while maintaining stringent measures to prevent exposure to minors.
Specifically, X’s policies against violent content remain in place, banning excessively gory or sexually violent material.
To protect underage users, X mandates that sensitive media be appropriately flagged.
Accounts belonging to users under 18 or those without confirmed birth dates will not be able to view such posts.
This measure is part of X’s broader strategy to foster a safe online environment while accommodating adult content.
The introduction of these rules may pave the way for X to develop services centered around adult content, positioning itself as a potential competitor to platforms like OnlyFans.
This strategic move comes as approximately 13% of posts on X in 2022 contained adult content, a figure that has since increased.
As X navigates these changes, regulatory bodies are anticipated to closely monitor the platform to ensure compliance, particularly in preventing the dissemination of non-consensual and child sexual abuse material.
