Wynk Music To Shut Down

Airtel, India’s second-largest telecom operator, has announced a new partnership with Apple to offer Apple TV+ and Apple Music as part of its premium broadband and postpaid plans.
Consequently, Airtel will be shutting down its Wynk Music app.
The integration of Apple’s services into Airtel’s high-tier packages will commence later this year, replacing Wynk Music.
Airtel’s premium subscribers will now have access to Apple TV+ and Apple Music at no extra cost.
Current Wynk Music subscribers will receive additional offers as part of the transition. Employees from the Wynk Music team will be reassigned within Airtel.
The decision to close Wynk Music comes despite its steady growth in music app downloads.
While Wynk Music saw an increase in market share from 5% in mid-2018 to 8% recently, it faced stiff competition from global services like Spotify and Apple Music, which offer lower subscription rates in India.
“Paying Wynk subscribers will gain access to additional offers.
“We are thrilled that Airtel customers in India will soon be able to enjoy all of the incredible content on Apple TV+ and Apple Music.
“With our ever growing catalog of world‐class films, television shows and music to choose from we know there will be something for everyone,” Airtel Spokesperson said.
The shift in strategy reflects a broader trend in the Indian telecom sector, where major players like Airtel and Jio are enhancing their service bundles with content and entertainment options to attract premium customers.
