A woman identified as Fatima Abubakar and her six children were brutally killed on Saturday after unknown hoodlums broke into their home in Dorayi Chiranchi Quarters, Kano State.
The Kano State Police Command confirmed the incident in a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa.
According to the statement, the command received a distress call at about 12:10pm reporting an attack on the residence of Haruna Bashir.
Police said the assailants attacked the victims with dangerous weapons, inflicting fatal injuries. In response, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Adamu Bakori, immediately mobilised a team of officers led by the Deputy Commissioner of Police in charge of Operations, DCP Lawal Isah Mani, to the scene.
The bodies of the victims were evacuated and taken to Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano, where they were confirmed dead by medical personnel.
Following the incident, the Commissioner of Police directed the Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), ACP Wada Jarma, to lead a comprehensive investigation aimed at identifying and arresting those responsible for the attack.
The police command expressed deep condolences to the bereaved family, the residents of Dorayi Chiranchi, and the entire people of Kano State.
The tragic incident was reportedly captured in a live video streamed on Facebook by Freedom Radio Nigeria on Saturday, January 17, 2027. Reports further alleged that the attackers not only killed the woman and her children but also threw an infant into a well.
Police assured the public that efforts were ongoing to bring the perpetrators to justice.
