Woman Brutalized by Anambra Anti-Touting Squad Seeks Justice, Group Amplifies Call on Soludo

A woman, Mrs Nkemakolam Nnamani, who was allegedly brutalized, assaulted and humiliated by the Anambra State Anti-Touting for advising them to stop assaulting, beating, and molesting an aged woman at Upper Iweka, is seeking justice from the state governor, Prof Chukwuma Soludo.

Mrs Nnamani, who lives at 87 Oraifite Street Awada Obosi, hails from Enugu state.

Our correspondent gathered that the injury allegedly sustained by the woman as a result of the assault was getting and needed urgent attention to prevent the leg from being amputated.

According to the hapless woman, there was no reason why she would suffer such kind of assault at the hands of the government enforcement team when she had done nothing to warrant such ill-treatment.

“I don’t know whether we have no government or is it because I am poor and have no one to intervene on my behalf.

”I appeal to Governor Charles Soludo of Anambra State, Governor Peter Mbah of Enugu State, Civil Society Organizations and public-spirited individuals to assist me in this trying and pathetic period.

“My children are out of school and I am yet to pay for my house rent and feeding is very difficult for us.

“I urgently need help,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Civil Liberties Organization in the State, in a statement jointly signed by the Chairman, Comrades Vincent Ezekwueme and Chidi Mbah decried with great disdain, the indifferent attitude of the government towards the plight and the sufferings of the woman and her family because of her patriotism to call the agents of the government to be civil in the discharge of their duties.

In the statement issued on Monday, tagged ‘Matter of Urgent and Immediate Public Interest and Importance’ the group regretted that its earlier call on the governor considering the pathetic condition of the woman went without any response from the government or her officials.

“The Government and public-spirited individuals should come to her aid in order to save her life and family.

“Similarly, the State government and Anambra State House of Assembly should kindly clarify to citizens, residents, and visitors, if there is legislation enacted by the State House of Assembly that bans people from urinating inside gutter with a penalty ranging between #30,000 to #50,000 depending on the financial capability of the defaulters. This more worrisome considering the fact that there is no provision of mobile toilets or public conveniences in some designated places.”

Worthy of note is since the assumption of their duties how much have they generated to the government coffers or does the money get into private pockets?

“It is of significant importance for the government to listen to the cries and predicaments of brutalized and now handicapped woman,” the CLO posited.
