Microsoft has announced the discontinuation of official Android app support on Windows 11, including access to the Amazon Appstore.Â
The decision also encompasses the cessation of maintenance for the Windows Subsystem for Android (WSA) within the coming year.
Users currently utilizing Amazon Appstore or Android apps on Windows 11 can continue their usage until March 5, 2025.
However, starting tomorrow, Amazon will prevent new users from downloading the Amazon Appstore from the Microsoft Store.
Developers are allowed to submit app updates for existing apps until the complete discontinuation of the Amazon Appstore on Windows 11.
It’s worth noting that WSA faced limitations from its inception, such as the absence of access to the Google Play Store.
Despite this setback, Microsoft asserted
its commitment to Android-Windows integration.
Third-party alternatives like Waydroid and BlueStacks offer avenues for running Android apps on Windows.
In a separate move, Microsoft recently introduced a feature enabling Android users to utilize their device’s camera as a webcam on Windows 11.
