Wike Links Drop in Insecurity to Rural Road Projects in FCT

Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, says the construction of roads and water projects in satellite towns and rural communities has helped reduce insecurity and improve access to farmlands across the territory.

Speaking during a live media chat in Abuja on Monday, monitored by The News Chronicle Wike said the administration prioritised rural infrastructure after consultations with traditional rulers, youths and other stakeholders, who identified poor road networks as a major driver of insecurity.

He said residents complained that security operatives often struggled to respond to attacks due to impassable roads, prompting targeted road construction based on community input.

According to him, the interventions are already yielding results, particularly in Kuje Area Council, where several roads have been completed.

Wike stressed that the FCT Administration is focused on implementation rather than policy declarations, adding that ongoing water projects in Kuje, Orozo, Gwagwalada and Dobi are set for commissioning as part of the administration’s anniversary activities.

He also listed key road projects across the FCT, including the A2–Pai road, Bwari–Kubwa corridor, Dei-Dei roads, sections of the A3 highway, and the Abuja airport and Zuba–Airport link roads aimed at easing congestion.

The minister further disclosed plans to review the Abuja Master Plan in July with its original Japanese designers, saying urban development must reflect current realities.

He urged constructive engagement from citizens and the media, noting that feedback helps government address pressing needs.

Wike also revealed that additional hostel facilities are being built at the Nigerian Law School to strengthen educational infrastructure in the capital.
