The minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Nyesom Wike, has stated that the Park and Pay scheme operating in nation’s capital is ‘illegal’.
Addressing journalists, in a live media briefing marking his one-year anniversary in office, Wike explained that he his attention was drawn by a Senior Advocate of Nigeria about the scheme unlawfully siphoning government funds under the pretense of a legitimate operation.
According to the former Rivers state governor, the scheme involved private consultants who were reportedly taking a disproportionate share of the revenue generated, with consultants receiving 80% and the FCT administration only 20%.
The minister emphasised that the scheme is unauthorised and promised prompt action to put an end to it.
