The running battle between the governor of Rivers State Rotimi Amaechi and the supervising Minister of Education Nyesom Wike has taken another twist. The new dimension involves attacks on intellectual ability.
Governor Amaechi at a thanksgiving service for Senator Magnus Abe said that Wike was not fit to be the Minister of Education because he cannot speak good English. He boasted that his Commissioner for Information was better at speaking English than Wike.
Amaechi said, “Wike is not fit to be the Minister of Education. How do you make a man who cannot speak English the Minister of Education? How can Wike convince professors in the university on any issue when he can’t speak proper English?”
“My Commissioner for Information, (Mrs Ibim Semenitari) speaks better English than Wike. And I am sure most of you know that she speaks English better than Wike”, he added.
The Rivers State governor also said that he was determined to stop Wike from becoming next governor of the state because he is incompetent.
However, Wike fired back saying that the intellectual ability of the governor was doubtful.
