Shola Ogudu, the mother of Boluwatife Ogudu, professionally known as Champz, has declined several live performance invitations for the 14-year-old musician, saying the decision was made to protect his development at an early stage of his career.
Champz, the first son of Nigerian singer Wizkid, released his debut extended play (EP), Champion’s Arrival, in November 2025. Since its release, the project has attracted attention across Nigeria and other countries, leading to multiple offers for live shows.
In a post shared on X (formerly Twitter) in December, Ogudu thanked event organisers for their interest but explained why the bookings were turned down.
“We want to say a big thank you for the countless show invitations and for considering Champz,” she wrote. “Due to his age, we’re prioritising development over live performances for now, and have had to decline show bookings. We truly appreciate the interest and understanding.”
Ogudu added that the family is taking a gradual approach to Champz’s career, noting that they are “building patiently and intentionally” and will consider live performances at a later time.
Champion’s Arrival has recorded strong streaming numbers since its release. According to Champz, the EP crossed one million listeners on Spotify, accumulated millions of streams, and became a top-charting album in under five hours across multiple countries.
Marking one month since the EP’s release, Champz shared in a post:
“Charting across countries, crossing 1M Spotify listeners, pulling in millions of streams, and becoming a top album in under five hours; I’m honestly grateful for every moment,” he said. “Humbled, motivated, and ready for whatever comes next. This is only the beginning.”
Wizkid, whose real name is Ayodeji Balogun, has since shown support for his son’s music career and has not opposed the decision to delay live performances.
Public reaction to Ogudu’s announcement has been mixed. Some fans argued that live shows would help Champz gain confidence and experience, while others supported the decision, urging that he complete his education before fully committing to performances.
A number of fans also asked whether Champz would appear alongside Wizkid at his December concerts, though no such plans have been confirmed.
Ogudu also revealed that Champz is expected to release another song in 2026.
