US President Donald Trump has proposed renaming the state of New Mexico to “New America”, claiming the move would boost property values, raise incomes and enhance the state’s national prestige.
Trump made the proposal in a social media post, arguing that the state’s current name does not adequately reflect its identity as part of the United States.
“New Mexico must immediately change its name to New America. We are not Mexico, we are the United States of America! This name would greatly increase the value and prestige of the state! Home values and incomes would rise, and you would be even prouder to honour our beautiful American flag!” he wrote.

The president also linked the proposed name change to his criticism of the state’s electoral process, suggesting that it could help address what he described as unfair elections.
“Perhaps even the unfair elections for which New Mexico is known would become fair again!” Trump added.
The proposal comes amid Trump’s continuing commentary on state governance and election integrity, with the president frequently weighing in on political and electoral issues across the country.
