Why More Creators Turned to CapCut in 2025 as AI Editing Took Off

Video editing platform CapCut recorded a sharp rise in use in 2025, driven by the growing adoption of its artificial intelligence tools, according to a year-end report released by the company.

CapCut, which is owned by ByteDance, said users created billions of projects during the year across short-form videos, presentations, and template-based designs. Although the company did not disclose its monthly active users, it noted that the platform is increasingly used by everyday creators rather than professional editors.

The company attributed the growth to new AI features designed to simplify editing and reduce technical barriers. In 2025, CapCut launched AI Lab, a dedicated section that brings together its generative tools, while also expanding AI-powered features across video and design functions.

CapCut said the changes were aimed at allowing users to focus more on content ideas and storytelling rather than complex editing processes.

Usage grew despite regulatory challenges in the United States, where CapCut experienced a brief service interruption in January 2025 before resuming operations under a compliance extension ordered by President Donald Trump. The disruption temporarily affected creators who rely on the app for routine editing work.

Text-based tools emerged as some of the most widely used features on the platform during the year. Auto captions ranked among CapCut’s most-used AI tools, alongside AutoCut, voice filter, and text-to-speech features. The company said captions are now commonly used both to improve accessibility and to help videos communicate clearly without sound.

AutoCut, which automatically edits clips into finished sequences, was widely adopted by new and experienced users. CapCut said this helped shorten production time while making video creation easier for people with limited editing experience.

Audio tools also saw increased use. Creators used voice filters and text-to-speech features for tutorials, explainer videos, and short-form storytelling. According to CapCut, these tools helped users add narration and personality to content while maintaining faster production timelines.

In December 2025, TikTok recognised CapCut’s creator community by introducing a “CapCut Creator of the Year” category at its first U.S. awards ceremony. Creator Recider won the award.

CapCut also introduced a Trust Center during the year, outlining its policies on content and data use. The move followed increased scrutiny of ByteDance-owned platforms, particularly in the United States, and was presented as part of efforts to improve transparency.

Competition in the video editing space intensified in 2025. Meta launched its standalone editing app, Edits, globally in April, offering tools such as automatic captions, background replacement, and watermark-free exports linked directly to Instagram accounts.

Unlike Edits, which is closely integrated with Instagram, CapCut said it remains focused on being a platform-independent editing tool used across different social and professional settings.

The company said it plans to continue developing simple and accessible tools as AI-assisted creation becomes more common in communication, education, and digital work.
