Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State has confirmed plans to reshuffle his State Executive Council and replace a few commissioners as part of his administration’s preparations for the 2027 general election.
Sule announced the decision on Wednesday while presiding over the fifth State Executive Council meeting at the Government House in Lafia.
The governor dismissed widespread speculation that he intended to dissolve the entire cabinet, describing the reports as false.
According to him, the administration is only considering a limited reshuffle involving a few portfolios and replacements to strengthen governance ahead of the next phase of its agenda and the 2027 elections.
He said details of the planned changes would be made public at the appropriate time.
Sule applauded members of the Executive Council for what he described as their outstanding performance, assuring them that his administration would maintain the same pace until the expiration of its tenure.
He admitted that, given their performance, he would have preferred to retain every member of the cabinet but noted that the planned adjustments had become necessary as the state enters a critical political and administrative phase.
The governor also congratulated the Commissioners for Health and Science and Technology for receiving professional awards on behalf of the state, alongside other commissioners honoured by their respective professional bodies.
He further commended the Ministry of Youth and Sports Development and the Nasarawa Amazons for emerging champions of the Presidential Cup, describing the victory as a major achievement that has brought pride to the state.
Sule also praised the Deputy Governor for receiving the victorious team on his behalf and for providing leadership during his recent official trip.
The governor disclosed that he would travel to China in the coming days at the invitation of a company involved in lithium mining and processing in Nasarawa State to commission a new secondary lithium processing facility.
He said the invitation reflected the company’s recognition of Nasarawa’s strategic role in the project and its desire for the state government to officially inaugurate the new plant.
Reflecting on recent activities, Sule highlighted several major engagements since the council’s last meeting on June 30, including the visit of the APC National Chairman and the minister representing President Bola Tinubu for the flag-off of the Akwanga-Gombe-Plateau-Bauchi-Maiduguri superhighway project.
He also recalled the Vice President’s visit to commission Africa’s largest lithium processing plant in Nasarawa State and thanked members of the Executive Council for their commitment in ensuring the success of both events.
