Daniel Bwala, Special Adviser to President Bola Tinubu on Policy Communication, has come under fire from some of his followers on X after criticising the anchors of Arise TV’s Morning Show.
Bwala, in a post on his X handle, accused the programme’s anchors of showing a biased stance towards presidential candidates ahead of the 2027 election.
He alleged that the journalists have strong opinions about all the presidential candidates except Peter Obi, the flagbearer of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
According to him, the anchors tend to tone down their criticism when discussing the former Anambra State governor, describing their approach as similar to “surrogates advising their principal.”
Bwala also claimed that since Obi began contesting for the presidency, the programme had not featured any trending reports considered adverse to the NDC candidate.
He wrote:
“Is anyone watching Arise News @ARISEtv morning show gossip trending?
“They have a strong opinion on all the candidates, but when it comes to @PeterObi, what they have is advice; even the tone of their voices when talking about Peter Obi is like surrogates advising their principal.
“I dare to say that they never had any so-called stories trending adverse to Peter Obi since Obi has been on the ballot.”
However, the post drew criticism from some of Bwala’s followers, who accused him of making an unnecessary claim against the television station and its anchors.
Some also advised the presidential aide to be more careful with his public comments, while others used the opportunity to criticise President Tinubu’s administration.
Some of the reactions include:
@pearlywhitegem: “You are only appointed to track and talk about Peter Obi and nothing more. If Peter Obi drops today from the race, your job will be terminated instantly.”
@ChukaOkrie: “I dare you to ask your principal to ask for a debate. You shameless old mugu, your principal is running and hiding like a chased rat; instead of defending his mandate, he has you gullible charlatans to do dat, and yet you failed woefully.”
@chux14319: “This is so petty. At your age and position in this government, you should be circumspect in what you post. Your opinion reflects negatively on your principal instead of giving positive vibes. What a shame.”
@Donlnemesit: “Mr Bwala you are disappointed that Mr Peter Obi is on the ballot. That’s all your frustration. No matter your gimmicks and campaign of calumny, Nigeria will be OK by next year.”
@Okechukwu_leo: “Obi presented himself for public scrutiny; Tinubu is using taxpayers’ money to stop the international court from releasing his 399 drug theory.”
