WhatsApp is testing a new feature that allows users to run two accounts on a single iPhone, according to information observed in recent TestFlight beta versions.
The feature, which appears in iOS beta version 25.34.10.72, introduces an “Account List” section in the app’s settings where users can add, manage, and switch between separate profiles.
Early testers report that each account keeps its own chat history, privacy settings, notifications, and backup preferences. A user can add a second profile by registering a new number, signing in with an existing WhatsApp account, or linking a companion account through a QR code.
One tester who shared screenshots of the feature through WABetaInfo described it as “a simple menu that makes switching between accounts immediate.” Testers also noted that WhatsApp has added two shortcuts: a long-press on the Settings tab to bring up the account menu and a double-tap to switch directly to the other profile.
WhatsApp has also integrated the feature with App Lock. When switching into an account that uses Face ID, Touch ID, or a passcode, the app requests authentication before opening messages. Notifications for inactive accounts remain visible, and each alert clearly states which account received the message.
Users can remove an account from the same settings area. When one profile is deleted, the app automatically returns to the remaining active account. Previously used numbers may be suggested during re-login, making it easier to restore a removed account.
At this time, the multi-account option is available only to selected iOS beta testers. The company has not announced when the feature will reach the public version of WhatsApp. A Meta representative did not respond to a request for comment.
Demand for multi-account support has been steady for years, especially among people who keep separate numbers for personal and work communication. Until now, the only practical way to maintain two WhatsApp profiles on one iPhone was by installing WhatsApp Business, which was not designed for everyday use.
The current beta rollout suggests that the multi-account feature is still in testing, and its release date remains uncertain. However, WhatsApp’s consistent updates on iOS and Android indicate that wider availability is likely once stability and security checks are completed.
