WhatsApp Introduces ‘Instant Video Messages’ Feature with a Twist

—

WhatsApp has rolled out an exciting new feature called ‘Instant Video Messages,’ allowing users to send and receive short video messages effortlessly. This feature operates similarly to sharing voice messages, enabling users to send a brief video message with the tap of a button.

However, this innovation has raised some concerns among users, as it uses the same button as audio messages, leading to accidental video message sends. Responding to user feedback, WhatsApp is now testing an option to disable this feature.

According to a report by WABetaInfo, the latest WhatsApp beta version includes a toggle that permits users to quickly deactivate ‘Instant Video Messages.’ When this toggle is switched off, the microphone icon, typically located at the bottom right of the screen, returns to its default behavior, allowing users to send voice notes without any surprises. Importantly, disabling the toggle does not prevent others from sending you video messages.

To deactivate ‘Instant Video Messages,’ open WhatsApp, tap on the three-dot menu in the top right corner of the screen, and navigate to the ‘Settings’ section within the app. In the ‘Chats’ section, you will find a toggle labeled ‘Instant Video Messages.’ Simply turn it off to disable the feature.

As of now, ‘Instant Video Messages’ are available for WhatsApp users on iOS version 23.18.1.70 and Android version 2.23.18.21, with plans to release it to the stable version in the near future. So, if you haven’t received the toggle yet, don’t fret; it will be available on your device soon.

In addition to this feature, WhatsApp recently introduced several other enhancements, including the ability to create nameless groups and screen sharing during video calls. Stay tuned for more updates as WhatsApp continues to refine its messaging experience.
