The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has dismissed claims of plotting to topple President Bola Tinubu’s government, declaring its commitment to democratic change through the ballot box not bullets.
Reacting to a tweet by presidential aide Bayo Onanuga, who alleged that opposition parties are scheming to overthrow Tinubu, ADC’s Interim National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, slammed the claim as “reckless and unsubstantiated.”
In a strongly worded statement on Wednesday, Abdullahi accused the presidency of laying the groundwork for a crackdown on opposition voices, warning that Onanuga’s remarks signal a disturbing trend toward repression.
“The ADC is not plotting a coup; we are plotting a better future,” Abdullahi said. “We don’t have bullets, we have ballots and when the time comes, we’ll offer Nigerians a real choice at the polls.”
He emphasized the party’s commitment to rescuing Nigeria from what it calls the “irredeemable incompetence” of the current administration through democratic means, not force.
“We are politicians, not soldiers,” he added.
