We Must Turn Youth Population Into Economic Asset -Education Minister

Nigeria’s education sector is gearing up for a major shift, with the Federal Government pushing to convert the country’s youthful population into a real economic advantage.

Speaking on Channels TV’s Politics Today with host Seun Akinbaloye, the Minister of Education, Dr. Maruf Tunji Alausa, said the focus must be on making Nigeria’s large youth demographic work for the country, not against it.

“We must turn Nigeria’s youthful numbers into demographic dividends,” Alausa stated during the one-on-one interview.

He also unveiled a streamlined pathway for NCE holders.

Under the new plan, graduates of the Nigeria Certificate in Education who meet the requirements can gain direct entry into university and complete their degree in just two years.

The development is part of broader reforms aimed at strengthening teacher training, expanding access to higher education, and improving graduate employability.

The announcement has sparked interest among students and educators, with many seeing it as a faster, more practical route to university education for NCE holders.
