We Can’t Claim to Be Equal Before the Law — Atiku Faults FG Over Selective Justice, Demands Probe of Gbajabiamila, Umahi

The presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Atiku Abubakar, has accused the Federal Government of shielding powerful allies of President Bola Tinubu from investigation, alleging that some individuals now enjoy immunity beyond what is provided in the Constitution.

In a statement made available to The News Chronicle, Atiku said he woke up to the reality that there are Nigerians who appear to be above the law simply because of their closeness to the seat of power.

He argued that while Section 308 of the 1999 Constitution grants immunity to certain public office holders, the provision does not extend to presidential aides or political allies.

The former Vice President questioned why no forensic investigation had been ordered into allegations involving the President’s Chief of Staff, Femi Gbajabiamila, despite what he described as serious claims surrounding an appointment letter and budgetary provisions.

Atiku also expressed concern over the safety of Prince Adeniyi Adeyemi, who he said claimed his life was under threat, while alleging that Gbajabiamila had instead been rewarded with additional presidential responsibilities.

He further accused the authorities of failing to investigate the Minister of Works, David Umahi, over allegations relating to the deaths of five engineers and Mary Habila.

Describing the situation as evidence of selective justice, Atiku said Nigerians could not claim to be equal before the law if politically connected individuals were shielded from investigation while others faced prosecution.
