The Federal Government has confirmed ongoing talks with the United States following President Donald Trump’s recent military threat.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the development known in an interview with Sky News, stressing that diplomatic channels are proving effective in easing tensions.
“Channels of communication have been opened. I can confirm that we are talking with them, and I think they are understanding the situation better,” Idris said.
“We believe most of the information stems from a lack of proper understanding of the diversity and complexity of the challenges we face.” He added.
The minister also clarified that Nigeria has not lost any territory to Boko Haram, emphasizing that the fight against insurgency is not conventional warfare. Idris further alleged links between a proscribed separatist group and US lobbyists, accusing them of misinforming American authorities.
