Beaming a searchlight on CEOs could be demanding, but getting them to speak at length could be even more challenging because of their extremely busy schedules. Our Business Editor, Gwiyi Solomon, was therefore fortunate in this regard. Last Wednesday he spoke at length with Jerry Omoruyi, CEO, Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Ltd (FCM) at their Abuja office on several issues.
My name is Jerry Omoruyi, CEO, Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Ltd, (FCM). I have over 15 years’ experience in the professional cleaning industry. Prior to founding FCM in 2005, I was a member of the founding team of Deep Cleaning Nigeria Limited, where I served as the Director of Operations. Before then I also worked with John Julian Cleaning Services, Dalina Cleaning Services and Best Cleaners.
I studied Industrial Relations & Personnel Management at Lagos State University. I am also an awardee of Youth Enterprise with Innovation in Nigeria (YouWiN).
On what the company stands for
Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Ltd was incorporated in 2005 to provide excellent cleaning services. We are a top professional cleaning company, providing a clean and healthy environment for homes and businesses in Nigeria. We are committed to adding value to brand image with our professional eco-friendly cleaning services. Our clientele comprises some of the largest corporations, public and private institutions, establishments, banks, schools, supermarkets, recreation facilities, event centers, homeowners, industrial facilities, and more.
In other words, maintaining high quality services is our major goal. We offer a wide range of cleaning solutions in regular janitorial services and special cleaning services such as floor care and maintenance, construction clean ups, general cleaning, window washing, carpet/upholstery cleaning, event cleaning, fire/water disaster restoration cleaning, fumigation/pest control services, selling of cleaning equipment and supplies. We’re one-stop-shop for all cleaning needs. We also partner with building owners and managers who have cleaning concerns with the building they own or manage; we help resolve their concerns by offering advice, training, troubleshooting and delivering full service cleaning solutions.
Measuring the standard of service
Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Ltd uses ISSA – Cleaning Industry Management Standard (CIMS). Apart from this, our employees are regularly trained in our training school because we understand that good and comprehensive trainings provide the basis for proper execution. We also developed a 3-step Integrated Cleaning Management process to ensure that high standards are met by our cleaning teams and the result visible to our client. And as you may know, at Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Ltd we are committed to using the best available equipment and chemicals to ensure that our team delivers a thorough and efficient job.
Striking features that distinguish the company from its competitors?
Our professionalism and knowledge set us apart from the rest. And this has its foundation in our 3-step integrated cleaning management processes, which I explained to you earlier. This is supported by our use of colour-coded cleaning system. Colour coding guide is an integral part of our cleaning process. This guide ensures that there is no cross contamination as equipments used in one area do not transfer germs and other unsavoury nasties to a less germ- infected area.
As part of our social responsibility, we also give one free cleaning a month to women that are sick especially those living with cancer, so that they can have time to take care of their health.
The Goals of the company
Our goals are to provide professional cleaning services to all segments of the market, and to do it better than any of our competitors.
This includes delivering the exact services our customers want, listening closely to their expectations, taking a pro-active approach in defining their requirements, building the best partnership relationship possible, and continually improving our products and services.
It also has to do with creating a company that rewards dependability, integrity, safety and provides for the training and development of all its employees.
Then to our values – we have an entrenched commitment to act with honesty and integrity at all times in all aspects of our business – to be professional in doing our job, and to deliver a consistent and high quality work.
On how far FCM has achieved its set goals
In a ladder of ten steps, I will say we are still in step one. But we are also grateful to God because we know where he took us from. For example, this year alone we have been able to create over 40 jobs because of the support we got from the Federal Government of Nigeria under the leadership of Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan through the YouWiN program. Our target is to create 120 jobs this year; so you can see that there is still a lot of work to be done and we also understand the fact that to whom much is given much is expected. So we will continue to work hard to make FCM vision a reality.
FCM’s plans for the future
Our plan is to become a leading provider of cleaning and maintenance services in Africa. Our vision is to occupy the major cities in Nigeria. And then move beyond the shores of the country to neighboring countries like Ghana, South Africa and many others. Right now Facility Cleaning & Maintenance Ltd is in Lagos, Benin City, Ondo Town and here in Abuja.
