The West African Examinations Council (WAEC) has turned a fresh page in its history, hoisting the flag of digital transformation across its five member nations with the full deployment of its Digital Certificate Services System, known as WAEC DigiCert.
In a statement issued from the Council’s headquarters in Accra, Ghana, the Head of Public Affairs, Demianus Ojijeogu, speaking on behalf of the Registrar, disclosed that the innovation is now live in The Gambia, Ghana, Liberia, Nigeria and Sierra Leone.
Like a long-awaited sunrise after years of paperwork and queues, the new platform promises to sweep away the cobwebs of bureaucracy. Designed as both a mobile and web-based application, WAEC DigiCert offers candidates and stakeholders smooth, round-the-clock access to digital replicas of their original certificates.
According to Ojijeogu, ”The WAEC Digital Certificate Services System offers candidates the opportunity to access, request, confirm and securely share digital copies of their certificates with institutions worldwide.”
Beyond just access, the system also throws a lifeline to candidates who may have misplaced their examination numbers. Users can retrieve lost WAEC exam numbers through the platform, while enjoying the assurance of authenticity and reduced costs.
Ojijeogu emphasized the credibility of the initiative, stating, ”The system is reliable and secured, and its authenticity is guaranteed while reducing administrative bottlenecks associated with manual certificate issuance and collection processes.”
He further reassured stakeholders that the digital leap would not sound the death knell for physical certificates. Traditional printing and issuance will continue alongside the new system, ensuring no candidate is left in limbo.
