Victor Osimhen can win the Ballon d’Or – Jose Peseiro

Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro has insisted that Napoli and Super Eagles forward Victor Osimhen can win the most decorated individual award in football, the Ballon d’Or, in the future.

Jose who just recently renewed his contract with the Nigeria Football Federation to continue as the Super Eagles head coach has successfully guided the Super Eagles to the 2024 AFCON tournament billed to take place in Ivory Coast from January to February according to CAF.

In his interview through II Napoli Online, the Portuguese Gaffer proclaimed that the Napoli Talisman has all it takes to win the prestigious award someday.

“He (Osimhen) can surely win the Ballon d’Or in the future. He’s not lacking anything to do it. He has different characteristics than other players that are at the top at this moment, but he scores a lot as well.”

Osimhen who was in action for the Azzurri last night during their UEFA Champions League 1-2 win away at Braga was voted the player of the game following his impressive input and assisting Di Lenzo in the first goal just before halftime.

Despite Napoli’s sloppy start to the new season in the Serie A with a loss after four games and 5 points behind the league leaders Inter, only Lautero Martinez, Olivia Giroud, and Vlahovic have scored more league goals than Osimhen.

Last season Osimhen guided Napoli to their first Scudetto after 30 years scoring 26 league goals and winning the Golden Boot – becoming the first African player in 125 years to win the Golden in the Serie A.

The forward who is on a mission to equal Rashidi Yekini’s all time goals for the Super Eagles has been nominated for the FIFA Best Player award and also was shortlisted for the 2023 Ballon d’Or Award. He’s no doubt the favorite player to unseat Sadio Mane as the best African Football of the Year winner.
