Popular social media commentator, VeryDarkMan, recently found himself in hot water after wearing a police uniform without authorization.
In a video, he playfully dubbed himself the “Chief Superintendent Officer (CSP)” of the police’s fictional online division, a move that didn’t sit well with the Nigerian Police.
The Nigerian Police, accusing him of impersonation, invited VeryDarkMan for questioning last Saturday.
Following his visit, he posted a public apology, clarifying that he was unaware of the CSP rank’s significance and had no intention of impersonating law enforcement.
In his message, VeryDarkMan urged everyone to seek permission before donning police or law enforcement uniforms.
“While some might have good intentions, others could misuse these uniforms,” he noted. “It’s always best to get approval.”
In a video caption, he explained, “Just back from the police station after being questioned about a costume that, apparently, looked too similar to their uniform.
I sincerely apologize to the Nigerian Police Force and the Inspector General’s office. Always get approval before using anything that resembles an official uniform. You might mean well, but others could exploit it negatively.”
He also gave a special shout-out to his lawyer, Adeyanju Deji, for his support throughout the process.
