A disagreement between former Big Brother Naija winner Phyna and social media commentator VeryDarkMan, also known as VDM, has become public after both parties exchanged accusations online.
Phyna, whose real name is Ijeoma Josephina Otabor, spoke during a video session about events connected to her late sister’s case. She said she could no longer forgive VDM because of the way he handled the matter publicly.
According to her, VDM made statements online that she described as false, including an allegation that she requested ₦1 billion during discussions surrounding the case.
Phyna said:
“VDM came out and started saying the opposite of what happened. I can never forgive him because of my sister’s case. He turned me into a bad person.”
She also alleged that VDM made sexual advances toward her during that period and claimed their relationship changed after she rejected him.
In her words:
“Maybe because he said he wanted to sleep with me and I didn’t accept, that was why he started holding grudges against me.”
VeryDarkMan later responded in a video posted on Instagram. He denied ever telling Phyna that he wanted to sleep with her and asked her to provide the evidence she claimed to have.
He said:
“Phyna said that I, VeryDarkMan, wanted to sleep with her. She said she has evidence. I would like to see the evidence first because I have never told Phyna that I wanted to sleep with her.”
VDM also argued that asking an adult for a consensual relationship would not amount to wrongdoing.
According to him:
“Both of us are adults. If I tell you that I want to sleep with you, that would be me seeking your consent.”
He added that neither of them is married and maintained that he did not make the statement Phyna accused him of making.
The disagreement has generated reactions across Nigerian social media platforms. Several users questioned why the allegation is coming up months after the death of Phyna’s sister in August 2025.
An X user identified as Lightup wrote:
“Why wait almost one year before dropping this bomb? Sister died August 2025, now May 2026, you remember saying na because of sex?”
Another user, Nancy, asked:
“Why did Phyna have to wait a year before she said this?”
Others argued that the issue should be handled carefully, given the emotional circumstances of the case.
User 0xpeace stated:
“Making sexual advances at someone when the person is in need of help is a despicable thing to do. That’s more like preying on the person’s vulnerable state.”
Lily Joe also reacted to the situation, writing:
“I understand how Phyna feels about the dismissal of her sister, the pain she has to endure, and all of that. She should take it easy on herself.”
Some users, however, defended VDM’s position that both individuals are adults.
Zoe Dorren wrote: “The credibility war has started, and I honestly don’t like it. So is Phyna insinuating that the reason VDM withdrew from the case was that she did not sleep with him?”
Another user, Joke, dismissed the controversy entirely, saying:
“We have better things to resolve in this country, not someone wanting to sleep with another. They are both adults.”
As of Monday, May 25, 2026, neither side had released any public evidence to support their claims.
