Mourinho asserted that the AFCON uses the VAR better than the originators, indicating that CAF referees have shown honesty in their usage of the VAR.

“I have watched AFCON more than European football. They are simply teaching us, to be honest. In AFCON VAR is used exactly the way it should be used.

The Portuguese highlighted that the African referees don’t comprise in their course of discharging their duties using the VAR.

“They do not use it to help the money magnet teams or famous teams. This is why you saw the best out of every team. Because they know VAR is not hired behind the scenes, but is for everyone.

Furthermore, Mourinho stated commended the willingness of African referees to listen to players’ concerns and review decisions accordingly.

“They listen even to their Players if the Ref missed something and go check.

“In Europe, if I as a coach or a player plead with a ref to go check something, it is a red card for doing that. The headquarters for VAR needs to be in CAF”.

The former Chelsea manager is one of the biggest admirers of Africa players, in recent times, great Africans like Didier Drogba, Michael Essien, John Mikel Obi, Solomon Kalou, Mohamed Salah etc. were given the biggest stage in their European career by the Portuguese.
