An Uyo-based activist lawyer and a resolute grassroots politician, Mbet Okpongete has commended Acting President Yemi Osinbajo for his swift action in sacking the Director-General of the Department of State Security (DSS), Lawal Daura, who he said caused ther country ”a big embarrassment” by sealing the National Assembly on Tuesday.
In a tweet, Reno Omokri said:
”I commend acting President @ProfOsinbajo for sacking the Director General of the Daura Secret Service, Lawal Daura. By this action, Professor Osinbajo has separated himself from the anti democratic tendencies of President @MBuhari #FrustrateBuhariDictatorship
”Nigerians recall that the NHIS boss, Usman Yusuf, was suspended for corruption by Osinbajo when President Buhari traveled to London only to be reinstated by @MBuhari when he returned to Nigeria. This must not be the case with the sacked DSS DH. He must go, never to return again!
”VP Osinbajo used wisdom to sack Daura. According to villa sources, Osinbajo first of all summoned the DG DSS to his office at exactly 1:15 PM. While he was still talking to Lawal Daura, Laolu @AkandeOJ was directed to release a statement announcing his sack in true mafiosi style!”
From Japhet Omojuwa also came this tweet:
”The DSS, in practice, takes directives from the Presidency. Today, the DSS apparently took over the National Assembly in a dramatic show of shame. Then the Acting President fired the DG of DSS, obviously over that show at NASS. So, who is behind the NASS blockade? Messy games.
”One more thing; if the Acting President didn’t order the DSS blockage like his sack of the DG DSS apparently indicates, the sacked DG should by now be answering questions from investigators. That is what would happen in a country run by sane human beings.
”These guys are messing with the heads of Nigerians and none of these moves has anything to do with the betterment of the Nigerian people. The sacked DG of DSS should be arrested immediately!
”I understand the aforementioned has since been detained. Very good. Logical enough.”
However, Okpongete who advocates for high ethical standards and the entrenchment of internal democracy within the country’s party structures said, ”as far as I’m concern the DG SSS is unschooled in the tenet of democracy. his sack is good for civil rule in Nigeria and an end to militarization of of the populace.”
Osinbajo, has fired the Director-General of the Department of State Services, Lawal Daura.
The sack was made public by the Senior Special Assistant to the Acting President, Laolu Akande, on his Tweeter handle.
The tweets read: “AgP Yemi Osinbajo has directed the termination of the appointment of the DG of the DSS, Mr. Lawal Musa Daura.
“Mr. Daura has been directed to hand over to the most senior officer of the State Security Service until further notice.”
