US Secretary of State, Blinken Vows To Drive Tech Revolution In Nigeria

In a press briefing at the State House in Abuja, Antony Blinken, the United States secretary of state, highlighted American eagerness to invest in Nigeria’s burgeoning tech sector.
Following a meeting with President Bola Tinubu, Blinken expressed commitment to partnering with Nigeria on technological advancements.
As part of his African tour, Blinken emphasized the support for artificial intelligence, blue economy, and climate action in Africa.
He outlined the United States’ desire to foster a technological revolution in Nigeria, citing collaboration between American tech giants and Nigerian counterparts to address President Tinubu’s ambitious one million digital jobs initiative.
Blinken praised ongoing efforts, mentioning tech incubators nurturing Nigeria’s startups and venture capital companies financing innovative projects.
Despite acknowledging clear opportunities, he emphasized the need to address long-term challenges, particularly corruption, to unlock Nigeria’s full potential.
“We want to work in partnership to help drive Nigeria’s technological revolution, creating jobs, growing businesses, and sparking innovations in both of our countries,” Blinken stated.
He welcomed President Tinubu’s economic reforms, including the unification of the exchange rate and removal of the petrol subsidy, while underscoring the importance of addressing issues such as corruption and facilitating foreign capital repatriation for transformative investment.
