The United States has condemned the recent attack on a village in Kaduna State that reportedly left at least 30 people dead, including children, and called on the Nigerian government to intensify efforts to curb violence against Christians in the country’s Middle Belt.
The condemnation was contained in a statement posted on X by the US Bureau of African Affairs and obtained by The News Chronicle on Saturday.
The bureau expressed sympathy to the families of those killed in the early morning attack, which reportedly occurred on July 27.
“The United States condemns the early morning July 27 attack on a village in Nigeria’s Kaduna State that reportedly killed at least 30 people, including children,” the statement read.
It also conveyed condolences to the bereaved families, saying, “We express our deepest condolences to the loved ones of the deceased.”
The US Bureau of African Affairs urged the Federal Government to take stronger measures to tackle the recurring violence affecting Christian communities in the Middle Belt.
The bureau reaffirmed that the United States would continue to encourage the Nigerian government to address the persistent insecurity and enhance protection for vulnerable communities.
“We will continue to urge the Government of Nigeria to address rampant violence against Christians in the Middle Belt,” the statement added.
