A high-level delegation from the United States Africa Command visited the Headquarters of Joint Task Force North East, Operation Hadin Kai, in Maiduguri, Borno State, to deepen bilateral counterterrorism cooperation in the Lake Chad region.Â
The delegation, led by Rear Admiral Cameron Chen, Deputy Director of Operations/Cyber, arrived at Maimalari Cantonment and was received by the Deputy Theatre Commander, Air Vice Marshal O.F. Akinboyewa.
During the visit, the AFRICOM team received a detailed briefing on the prevailing security situation in Nigeria’s North-East, including updates on threat assessments and ongoing counterterrorism and counter-insurgency operations across the theatre.
Security sources disclosed that discussions centred on improving intelligence sharing, expanding intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance (ISR) support, strengthening logistics interdiction, and enhancing operational coordination among forces operating within the Lake Chad Basin.
The delegation also reviewed multinational strategies aimed at weakening terrorist networks and disrupting their supply chains across the region.
Both Nigeria and the United States reaffirmed their commitment to sustained collaboration under existing counterterrorism frameworks, with discussions also covering preparations for the forthcoming Operation Lake Sanity III.
Officials described the engagement as productive, noting that the visit ended peacefully without any security incident.
The meeting underscores the continued importance of international partnerships in sustaining pressure on terrorist groups operating in Nigeria’s North-East.
