The US Ambassador to Nigeria, Mary Leonard, speaking with journalists in Abuja disclosed that the United States is ready to help Nigeria identify sponsors of insecurity in the country. She was responding to a question on the willingness of the United States in helping Nigeria identify sponsors of terrorism in the country.
She informed the journalists that the matter is still in consideration. In her words “That is something we are very eager to partner Nigeria on…… I have had at least three conversations in the last two months on this subject”. She would not disclose more than that for the time being.
In clarifying the analogies between Afghanistan and Nigeria making rounds, she said that they are not the same as people insinuate and that what happened in Afghanistan will not happen in Nigeria, at least based on the manner of US intervention.
