Reports from Nigeria indicate that a United States Air Force C-130 military aircraft landed in Abuja late on Monday night.
Eyewitnesses said the aircraft, believed to be transporting military personnel and equipment, touched down at about 11:00 p.m. before departing again shortly afterward.
The development comes just days after the United States carried out airstrikes against terrorist targets in some parts of Nigeria.
It also coincides with rising international tension following the arrest of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro by US President Donald Trump.
As of the time of filing this report, neither Nigerian authorities nor the US government has issued an official statement explaining the purpose of the aircraft’s brief stop in Abuja.
