UPDATE: Persistent Protests in Maiduguri Despite Curfew and Heavy Security Presence

—

Despite curfew and heavy presence of security agencies, including the Nigerian Army and Police, protests against the government continue to erupt across Maiduguri.

On Friday, demonstrations resumed in various parts of the city, including Gomari Kwastin, Baga Road, and Abbaganaram, as citizens voiced their frustrations with the Nigerian government.
The ongoing protests are fueled by widespread discontent among the youth, who are protesting against issues such as hunger, insecurity, kidnapping, and inflation.
The grievances are not limited to the younger population; men and women of all ages have joined the protests, demanding immediate relief from the hardships they are enduring.
Protesters can be heard shouting, “We are facing serious conditions! We are hungry! We need food and security!” Some demonstrators have even gone so far as to call for the military to take over the government, reflecting the depth of their dissatisfaction and desperation.
The unrest in Maiduguri escalated on Thursday evening with sounds of gunshots heard around midnight.
However, the threat of violence and the presence of armed forces have not deterred the determined protesters, who continue to press for change despite the risks involved.
