The management of the University of Abuja has expelled 28 students for various disciplinary offences, including examination malpractice, cult-related activities and result forgery.
The decision was reached during a Senate meeting of the institution, according to a statement issued on Sunday by the Acting Director of Information, Habib Yakoob. He said the action followed a thorough review of findings and recommendations submitted by the Student Disciplinary Committee.
According to the statement, the affected students were found guilty of offences such as threat to life, assault, conspiracy, burglary and theft.
Others were implicated in cult-related activities, as well as possession and use of hard drugs. Some were also accused of uploading fake O-Level results on the university’s admission portal.
The statement further revealed that several students failed to appear before the disciplinary committee despite multiple invitations. Consequently, the Senate approved the withdrawal of certificates previously issued to 15 former students who ignored repeated summons.
After reviewing other cases, the Senate cleared nine students of any wrongdoing. However, 33 students were issued warnings for offences including conspiracy, hostel racketeering and fighting.
The Vice Chancellor, Hakeem Fawehinmi, reaffirmed the institution’s commitment to maintaining a safe and conducive learning environment. He stated that the university would continue to enforce its rules strictly to uphold discipline and academic integrity.
Fawehinmi also commended the Student Disciplinary Committee for diligently handling the cases and urged students to conduct themselves responsibly to avoid jeopardising their academic pursuits.
